Shoulder Season Short Hikes
In shoulder season we have to be selective about which trails we choose to hike to avoid, mud, ice, or snow. Every half-month is different but we have a long list of hikes that we can select to match the conditions. A few choices are shared here (from hikes and walks in Novermber – December).
A favorite set of trails starts behind the recycling bins on Bunker Road. There are several possible trails to choose from, but the main trail is the Sage Trail. All of the trails are good and a few have excellent views over the Thompson River Valley.
We sometimes hike tracks from Sun Rivers when the south-facing slopes clear of snow and ice.
From the end of Uplands – McLeod Road in Barnhartvale are some shorter unsigned trails, many of which are on a grasslands bench.
We hiked the western end of the Mission Flats Beaches. The main entrance can’t be used because of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Construction, but the beaches can be reached from the west end near the Landfill.
Before the Gregson Trail closed we hiked it one last time. CP Rail has closed access permanently for a new expansion project.
Before the Ironmask Trails closed for the season we hiked in from the lower entrance on Lac le Jeune Road.
