Some informal trails and routes on either side of Rose Hill Road. Driving Directions/Trailheads: There are many possible trailheads, but for this page we will start at Rose Hill Park. There are fencelines and private property areas so all routes require some exploration (local knowledge). Trails: The gasline and powerline tracks make good east-west routes. Juniper Ridge can be …Continue reading…

When we first started hiking, running, and walking in the Upper Sahali area green space was abundant. As development expanded the neighborhoods, but some easements and green spaces were planned. Some access sections were closed (illegally) by homeowners who built fences across the designated easements, but enforcement did not happen. Nevertheless, some were kept open. In fact, the City has …Continue reading…

When I want a short easy hike I sometimes go to the Whiteshield trailhead of Peterson Creek Park. Almost every time I turn onto the Grasslands Loop to enjoy the view and now I have second reason to hike the trail. There is a commemorative bench there to remember our friend Clive Giolma. The view was one of Clive’s favorites. …Continue reading…
The first trails I hiked in the Kamloops area were in Peterson Creek Park. That was in 1976. It was a rough area with a few single track trails. Over a few months, i hiked every trail, but also explored … Continue reading →
Jacko Lake is one of the closest lakes to Kamloops and at a low altitude, it is also one of the first ice-free lakes for fishing. It is a busy place in spring so we paddle on the larger lakes early and come back to Jacko in summer when the lake heats up and fishing is not so good. When …Continue reading…
When all the trails are snowed in and ice develops where we would like to hike or bike, we can sometimes use backroads that are seldom-driven but kept open with snowplows. The Goose Lake Road runs for 12 km from the Long Lake Road near Knutsford up to the high country forests of the Lac le Jeune Road. On a …Continue reading…

All of the routes off the north, west and south sides of Hull hill make fine snowshoeing routes, but all require stomping in tracks and navigating the backwoods. The main access route for the north and west side is off the Goose Lake Road, which is usually plowed in winter (the plough went by the day after the recent snowfall). …Continue reading…
Twice this winter we have snowshoed past the old cabin on the northwest side of Hull Hill. Yvonne Odber created a geocache listing here: “This old homestead #1. In the fall of 2011, my husband and I adopted this cache from Mrs. Zee, the original owner. I was very excited to do this cache because this site has wonderful childhood …Continue reading…
In 1976 Peterson Creek was the first place we hiked in Kamloops and we have returned many, many times to hike all of the trails. There were no trail signs then, but at some point this map was posted on the FHA Collins Trail. The names of all the trails have changed but we used to call the trail from …Continue reading…
We have been exploring the forested lands off the Lac le Jeune Road for a few years. For snowshoeing, this road is the best access to get to the 3000 – 5000 foot elevation level. At the upper end of this area, the forest is thick and the access in winter is harder. Some of the best snowshoeing in our …Continue reading…
