Winter Hiking
We hike for 12 months. During the snowiest season, we alternate snowshoeing, cross country skiing and hiking. There is still limited, but good hiking deep into December, then we can start up again by March 1st. These shoulder-season hikes are more limited, but there are good routes – the hills above the north shore, the Moonscape Trail, Valleyview silt cliffs, routes on Mount Dufferin, Westsyde Bench, and a few roads that aren't ploughed in winter remain hikable until the snow is calf deep. After that, routes that area hiked by others get stomped down and with gaiters can still be good routes to hike. Once the snowdrifts accumulate, we increase our ratio of nordic and snowshoe activity. Watch for our footprints in Kenna Cartwright Park.
