Firewood
We have been re-exploring the old homesteads on the edges of the Lac du Bois ranges. About 20 years ago, a 100 year-old homestead still existed near Stony Lake, but it has all but disappeared now. When we mapped the area, 4 walls enclosed two buildings, but now only a few scattered boards remain. This was not nature reclaiming the boards and logs. Snowmobilers use the upper grasslands in winter and will stop at times to light a fire. The logs and boards of the old homestead were harvested more than once for a winter bonfire. We saw the evidence along with a few beer cans in the later winter and early spring. Respect for our heritage should be enough to leave these old structures alone. They are all in the Nature Conservancy, the Park, or Crown Land and should be left until claimed by nature, not for firewood.
