There are a number of “kayak rental companies” that have plastic sit-on-top kayaks for use on the ocean in protected waters. We have rented them several times when these are all that are available. We paddled the Hanalei River on Kauai last year hen this year we paddled A’ Bay on the Big Island. First of all, we were astounded …Continue reading…
On a smoky day I drove up to the Stake Lake in hopes of getting high enough to have better air quality. Even at 1416m, Lodgepole Lake was smoky so I paddled one loop around the lake then came down to McConnell Lake for some additional mileage. The launch had some fishermen, dog walkers, hikers, runners, and some paddlers, but …Continue reading…
We paddle the rivers of our area in early spring. There are a limited number of launch spots and some of those are in faster water. There is a good beach launch on the northeast side of Lafarge Bridge so we launch from there from time to time, but it makes a better landing spot for a downriver paddle than …Continue reading…
On two recent paddling outings the noise levels were quite different. When we paddled downriver, there were the usual highway and railroad noises as we paddled from Lafarge to Kamloops. When the trains weren’t running it was relatively peaceful. As we approached Kamloops and the morning started to wane, the power boat and personal water craft crews started to emerge. …Continue reading…
We started paddling in the latter part of February and continued through to mid-November, but we are putting all the boats away for the winter now. Some video footage of late paddles on the river, some more videos, and features on some local lakes will be posted over the winter:
We were fortunate to be given a tour of the production facility for Delta Kayaks in Maple Ridge and see the latest innovations in design. The owner talked to us about how the kayaks have evolved over the years. I had a 2006 Delta kayak and the new ones have a number of improvements. “Its v-shaped hull, pronounced chine and …Continue reading…
Portaging a kayak is always a challenge. If the track is flat and smooth, the small kayak carts work fine, especially with a light kayak. We have done a number of portages with relative ease, but we also had one hard portage when our cart had a flat tire on Murtle Lake. We did the full Bowron Lake Circuit and …Continue reading…
