Buse Hill in April
We drove out onto the Robbins Range Road in Barnhartvale and continued to the trailhead to Buse Hill Provincial Park. We parked just off the road, and climbed up the double track toward the summit. The lower slopes are part of Buse Creek Ranch. The grassland hills offer wide views to the north toward Sunrise Mountain.
The park is the forested area on top, and a double track climbs through the grassland, then the forest for 1.5 km.
Just off the trail is a large pond below the summit of Buse Hill. Ducks swam off when they heard us near the shoreline.
At the top are fine views north and east. Outer Barnhartvale was to our right and the South Thompson River Valley lay to the east.
Below the hill lies Buse Lake, also part of the park, best accessed from Barnhartvale Road.
Below our feet were the red cliffs of Buse Hill, a long, sheer drop. We circled the upper slopes, then started down in a loop.
We continued down through the forest to the grassland slopes, then down to the trailhead, a 3.5 km hike.
