Sugarloaf Hill
Although we have hiked to the top of this forested hill near the Coquihalla Highway a number of times over the years, we are always cautious above access issues since there are private lands around the rocky hills. The summit of the 3 hills is on Crown Land, but there are lease tenures on them, likely for cattle grazing. The most accessible slopes on the north side are private lands. There is a narrow corridor of Crown land access from the northwest side which would involve crossing a barbed wire fence (a grazing lease border).
When cattle are on the private lands or on the leased quarter section, hiker should respect the rancher’s and lease holder’s rights and just go somewhere else. Off season, hikers on foot could choose to access the summits with a “Leave no Trace” policy.
We do this quietly and try to help out by taking out any trash, respecting fences and signage and keeping the group small.
