On a June day I drove to Shuswap Lake and then turned north onto the Adams Lake Road.    The Flumes Trails are located just past the Bear-Loakin Road turn off.    The Upper Flumes Trails climb the hill by Bear (Hiuihill) Creek west upstream toward Skmana Lake.    The Lower Flumes Trails follow Bear Creek downstream to the Adams River.    From one parking area hikers can do either or both trails.    Along the way are a number of interpretative signs.     The Bear Creek Flumes were the longest flumes in Canada (17.7 km) when they were active.   

Even without the historical context, these are scenic and rewarding trails.     On a weekday early morning start, there was no one else on the trails.  All photos by the author.   click an image for a lightbox/larger view.

In spring, there is a lot of water coming down the gorge in a series of small waterfalls.
