On a cool fall day I got an early start to hike the Lower Flumes Trails to Adams River.    I hiked southeast and explored old trails and scrambled to some viewpoints and riverside spots.   At one point I worked my way down to the mouth of Bear Creek where there were some sockeye salmon spawning.    I also hiked northwest on well-established park trails along the river.  

Fall colors and quiet forests flanked the trails.  

In protected areas, mosses covered rocks and logs and there were cedar, hemlock, and birch trees.  

Both coniferous and deciduous trees were found on the rivershores with a blend of colors and the many sounds of the river rushing down to Shuswap Lake.  

There were many viewpoints to the river along the trails.  

In open groves were a few birches, thimble-berries, and shrub growth.  

Fallen leaves and evergreen needles covered the trails, sometimes in motion with small gusts of wind.  

The hike was about 7 km with a number of off-trail exploratory route.    This was a quiet and peaceful hike, one I will return to do again in the fall seasons to come.
