Venables Valley Tour
On a sunny day in spring I traveled down the Trans Canada Highway between Cache Creek and Spences’s Bridge and I hiked Epsom Provincial Park, I drove through Venables Valley, and then I hiked to the top of Red Hill. The drive past Venables Lake was a scouting trip for some possible future hikes, but this was a scenic route to photograph too. I left the highway and went up the South Venables Road. The road is a good one. I spotted two hills worth hiking along the way.
I crested the hill to enter the valley and stopped to admire the shallow lake at the south end of the area.
The Venables Valley Road follows Venables Lake for about 1.8 km. I will return to paddle this lake.
A flotilla of geese was proceeding down the lake as I stopped to enjoy the spot.
The north end of the lake is a marshy spot where Venables Creek runs into the lake. The Cornwall Hills are on the right in this image.
I drove down the North Venables Road and stopped to take a photo of this “spotted lake.”
A few wildflowers were in bloom along the route, including this pale rose.
I will return to paddle the lake and hike one of the hills in this peaceful area.
