Trophy Mountain 2016
The hike to the top of Trophy Mountain is the premier route in our region. We started going up the mountain in 1976 and we have returned every year. The month for our hike varies, but we always go up through the meadows to Plateau of the Lakes and from there we vary the route – up to Long Hill, the scramble up the waterfall, up the steep route to the ridge to Trophy 2, the traverse over to Cwem Cwem Lake, or the long circuit of Trophy One and Trophy Two. We have also hiked the East Trophy Ridges and the ridges, slopes, valleys, and tarns between most of the peaks.
In August of 2016, we hiked steadily up the main trail to the peak of Trophy Two in 2.5 hours.
From the parking lot at the end of the Trophy Mountain Road, we hiked through the forest to the meadows. We continued up to Plateau of the Lakes, then started the steep route to the top of the ridge.
From the ridge between Long Hill and Trophy 2, there are views to the north side of the Trophy Mountain Range and beyond into Northern Wells Gray Park.
Perennial snowfields can be seen on the steep north side of Trophy Two.
From the summit of Trophy Two, the ridge over to the highest peak of the Trophies is a scramble down a serated ridge and back up the west ridge.
The back side of the three northern Trophy Peaks all have glaciers/permanent snowfields. The views to the north are of the higher rugged peaks of the Cariboo Mountains.
On the way back down the north side of the Raft Mountain peaks invites us to return to hike there again. We will return to hike the Trophy Mountains in 2017.
