There are a number of routes for hiking, biking, and exploring in the west end of the Dewdrop Range.

Driving Directions/Trailheads:

  • Drive west on Tranquille Road past the airport, the golf course, some farms, and at Tranquille, turn right, go over the tracks, and the bridge, then climb into the hills on the Tranquille – Criss Creek Road.
  • At a hairpin turn, the road forks.   Turn left onto the Frederick Road.
  • At 3.3 the road spits into two.   The Upper Dewdrop Road is a high-clearance road that continues for 12 km.
  • The lower road (Frederick Road) winds through the hills then starts the drop down to Frederick.   The road is gated above Frederick.
  • There are many side roads off both roads that can be combined into loop routes.

 

Trails/Routes:

  • From the Frederick Road we can hike the Bluebird Trail, Frederick Bluffs, or explore the Dewdrop Hills.
  • There is a loop route that combines the Frederick Road and the Upper Dewdrop Road.
  • From the Upper Dewdrop Road, we can access the Three Amigos Trail, the Dead Coyote Trail, Rousseau Hill, and Peregrine Bluffs.
  • The track continues past Peregrine Bluffs to the Dewdrop – Rousseau Wildlife Management Area.
