Harper Mountain is a ski hill, but in recent years has also seen a number of mountain bike trails added.   There are cross country trails and snowshoe tracks that can be combined for summer hiking or for winter exploration on snowshoes or XC skis.

Driving Directions:

From Kamloops drive north on Highway 5, then turn right on the Paul Lake Road.   Follow the road as it climbs past the grasslands toward Paul Lake.   Watch for a turn onto the Paul Lake – Harper Mountain Road.   Follow the gravel road as it winds up the mountain, ending at the ski hill.   Hikers can park there or lower down where the side roads intersect.

Trails:

  • There is a bit of signage on both XC, snowshoe,  and biking trails, but hikers are left to explore to work out a good route.
  • There are quite a few single track bike trails too, but most of the downhill ones are not suitable for hiking.   Some of the bike trails between the parking area and the top of the mountain can be hiked in combination with XC and snowshoe trails.
  • We usually hike or snowshoe the same route, following the Powder Highway to the top and back on double tracks.

Snowshoeing and Cross Country Skiing:

Harper by the Numbers:

  • elevation at the upper parking area – 1182 m
  • elevation at the summit – 1476 m
  • hiking distance from the upper parking lot to the summit – 3 km
