We have hiked most of the trails in the Coquihalla Summit Area. They are summarized here:
Driving Directions/Trailheads:
- Follow the Coquihalla Highway into the Coquihalla Summit Area. All trailheads are off side roads or rest stops.
- July Mountain is accessed by taking the Juliet Road turn-off. The road becomes high clearance, then 4WD. We usually cross the bridge then continue up the road for about 4 km, pulling over when the road becomes too rough or too grown in. The trail is straight ahead.
- Guanaco Peak is accessed by taking the Coldwater River FSR. The road is in good shape to the Little Douglas Lake Trailhead. After that it is 4WD or is too grown-in. The trail is 5.5 km up the rough road.
- Illal Meadows is reached by turning at the Coquihalla Lakes turn-off, then following the Tulameen Forest Service Road to Illal Creek. The 3 km Illal Road is 4WD. The trail starts at the end of the road.
- Zoa Peak and Thar Peak trailheads start at the end of the Falls Lake Road. Falls Lake Trail is also there.
- To reach the Needle Peak, Flatiron Peak, Zupjok Peak, or Yak, or Nak Peaks Trails, take the exit to the Zopkios Ridge Rest Area. The trailhead to the Needle/Flatiron is on the other side of the highway so drive through the tunnel.
- The trailhead to Yak or Nak Peak requires walking along the edge of the highway east for 1 km.
- The trailhead to Ottomite Mountain, Iago, Zupjok, Llama, and Alpaca is at the west side of the Zopkios Rest Area. It is an old double track bearing northwest.
