The Battle Bluff Trail starts in the Dewdrop Range on the Frederick Road and goes south over a low ridge, then descends to a lower bench.   It then veers east to climb Battle Bluff.   The end of the trail is the top of the bluff overlooking Kamloops Lake.

Driving Directions:

  • From Kamloops, take one of the two bridges to the Kamloops North Shore.
  • Continue west on either Tranquille Road or Ord Road toward Kamloops Airport.   Continue west on Tranquille Road past the airport, the Kamloops Golf Club, farmlands, and past Tranquille (stay right). crossing the CNR line.   The road turns to gravel.   Continue over the Tranquille River (on a bridge) then start climbing the hill on the Tranquille – Criss Creek Road.  The road climbs into the hills and then at 2.2 km, at a hairpin turn, turn left onto the Frederick Road.
  • Drive for 1.5 km along the road and park at a concrete barrier on the left with a BC Parks sign posted.

 

Battle Bluff Trail:

  • The trail crosses a flat and sometimes muddy meadow bearing south toward a gully.   Follow the trail in the gully as it climbs over a ridge.
  • Just before emerging into the open sagebrush grasslands, the trail veers to the right (ignore the side trail to the left).
  • Continue down the hill on the double track to the benchland.   The single track to the left also can be taken.
  • At the base of the bluff, bear east on a trail up the bluff, then follow the single track to the top.
  • The end of the trail is at the top near a cairn.  Hikers can explore the top of the bluff, taking care near the drop-offs.
  • Battle Bluff is at N50 43.820 W120 33.956.

  • Signage is minimal.
  • There are some cliffs past the viewpoint so keep track of younger children and pets.
  • The out-and-back route is about 5km return.
