Sunrise for Lunch
Sunrise Mountain rises steeply above Barnharvale and makes a good hike in any season. Previous articles detail some of the seasons and routes:
In June, we chose the trailhead at the end of Ronde Lane and hiked briskly to the top in 1.25 hours, had lunch on top, and returned the same way. The final section is quite steep and a new single track now goes into the gully on the west and then follows some old double tracks to the back side of the mountain. This is flagged now and we have added some additional flagging on the best of the two routes.
If you go,
- Keep left at most junctions at the lower end
- watch for flagging tape on the upper end
- be prepared for a steep route and some loose rock near the top
