St. John Point Trails
St. John Point Regional Park is a newly-established park, developed through the efforts of the Mayne Island Conservancy Society and the Capital Regional District. The trails are still under development, but fine for experienced hikers. We hiked a loop route and explored the shoreline and headlands wherever we found reasonable access.
contFrom the trailhead/parking area at the end of the park road off the end of the Horton Bay Road, we walked down to the cove at Kadonaga Bay.
There is some signage, but the park is still having trails and signage developed more formally. We followed a good trail that angled along the shoreline of St. John Point.
The best part of the park is a trail that follows the rocky shoreline by Navy Channel. Saturna Island lies 2 km southeast.
The single track trail winds through douglas fir and arbutus trees.
Along the trail, there were wind-shaped trees arched over the steep shoreline, colorful arbutus trees, and some gnarled junipers. Click an image for a lightbox view and a caption.
We hiked to the end of the point, then followed a different trail back through the forest. Every part of this hike was enjoyable.
