Six Mile Upper Viewpoints
On Nov. 12, we featured how to access Six Mile Lake and offered a lower loop option. This post offers a higher route to viewpoints looking out to Kamloops Lake and all the hills in each direction.
The Six Mile area has open forests, meadows and grass slopes, numerous rocky outcrops and cliff bands, ponds, and glacial-carved terrain. Because the forest is so open and the map is so accurate, it invites exploration. There are established double tracks and some well-used single tracks, but you can also follow less-defined tracks and routes through the gullies and up the hillsides. The area has been used for orienteering for many years.
Approach Six Mile Lake from either side (see the earlier post) and park along the side of the roads marked. Hike and explore one of the routes shown on the map. Have lunch at one of the viewpoints, watch for wildlife and wildflowers, respect cattle grazing and fences, and leave no trace of your passing.
