Silvertip Falls
The trail to Silvertip Falls is off the Spahats Creek Road. Take the Trophy Mountain Road, but stay right at 4.3 km and continue on for another 2.5 km. Where the road crosses Silvertip Creek is the Silvertip Falls Recreation site (just before the bridge). A short, rough road then leads up to 2 primitive campsites and the hiking trail starts at the end of the side track. The single track trail is 1 km long and winds up beside the tumbling creek with lots of roots and rocks on the trail, all in a damp forest. The trail ends at the base of the cascading falls.
There are a series of smaller cascades all the way up the trail.
At the end of the trail, Silvertip Creek cascades down a series of falls from the subalpine valley above. The total drop makes it the tallest waterfall in Wells Gray Park, but because it is not a plunge falls, Helmcken Falls retains the credit for the biggest single drop.
It is an up-and-back trail, a shorter hike often best done in combination with another hike in the area. Take the time to check out the creek at other spots just off the trail too.
Here is a short video of the falls:
Silvertip Creek drains the snowfields between Trophy 2 and Trophy 1, from the outlet at Cwem Cwem Lake down though the Silvertip Creek Valley to the falls. We will be back in August to hike over to the creek and up to Cwem Cwem Lake for a Trophy Mountain basecamp.
