Roving Over Dewdrop Ridge
One of our favorite hikes in the Kamloops area has no trail, but the open slopes to the top of Dewdrop Ridge allow easy access to wonderful views. The parking area is on the Dewdrop Range Road at the first parking area on the right. Hikers can strike off bearing south, picking whichever opening in the scattered trees that looks easiest. The route to the top of the ridge is 1 km. At the far southeast end, the views extend up the Thompson River Valley toward Kamloops. A faint path follows the upper rim of the ridge for 1 km. In the middle section we can look down to the top of Battle Bluff and the rocky hills surrounding Kamloops Lake. At the western end of the ridge we are provided with views southwest down Kamloops Lake. Below the ridge are basalt bluffs, requiring some scrambling to explore. On the north side is the Red Plateau Escarpment rising feet above the Dewdrop Range. On a clear day all of the landscapes are presented free of charge with no crowds or urban noise.

There are several articles on this website on routes which include Dewdrop Ridge – Battle Bluff East Shoulder, Dewdrop Basalt Cliffs, the Trackless Way, and more. This is also one of our best spots to view sunrises or sunsets when conditions are right. We will be back in the winter for stomp on the snow.
