There are 60 km of trails in the Stake Lake system.   In the winter the Overlander Ski Club runs the nordic trail system and also offers snowshoe trails.   Skiers and snowshoers should drive to the main entrance to Stake Lake in winter.

In summer, most hikers and bikers also go to the Stake Lake entrance, but it is possible to access the trails from the Lac le Jeune Campground or from the forest service road farther to the east.

Lac le Jeune Campground to the Stake Lake Trails

  • Follow the lakeshore trail at the campground and continue to the far east corner where a person-gate and map is at the fenceline.
  • Cross the road and continue down the road for 260 meters.   A forest service road is on the left going uphill.   Follow this for another 200 meters.  (There is also a short cut right there.)  There are several short cuts onto the Sidewinder Trail.   Trail maps are at every junction.
  • Loops can be done.   A recommended one is Rustler – Viewpoint – Drifter.
