Common Witch’s Hair is a pale green lichen that hangs off evergreen branches in mid to higher level humid forests. It can also be seen in open forests that have a north-aspect.

It is found in forests from Oregon to Alaska. It grows from about 15 cm to 30cm long in an intricate branched pattern. It is similar in appearance to Methuselah’s Beard, and some other related types of hanging hair lichens.
