Paddling Paska Lake
Paska Lake is fine place for a 4 km paddle around the shoreline, especially when the Thompson River Valley gets warm in late spring. The Paska Rec Site can be busy on weekends, but it is quiet on weekdays and at 1460 m (4800 feet) , it is cooler in the high country forest.
A loon was nesting along the shoreline in the east end of the lake.
The paddle around the lake is an enjoyable one, but the highlight is the lagoon channel on the southwest side of the lake. In late spring there is lots of water so paddling down the channel in a kayak or canoe is easy.
Waterlilies were starting to bloom in the shallows. There were many ducks and a muskrat swam to safety at the mouth of the channel.
The channel adds about 1.2 km (out and back). A narrow gap lead back out to the lake to complete the 5.2 km high country paddle.
