On Stake Lake
We try to travel to many lakes to do our paddling each year. With about 100 lakes accessible to kayak, we move around as much as we can. We paddle the river in the early and late season, but as soon as the ice is off the lakes (usually Kamloops Lake first, then Jacko and Six Mile), we paddle many other lakes. We are less interested in paddling big lakes with lots of powerful boats, so we look for lakes with motor restrictions, or remote locations with little activity. Sometimes we just go to a lake we know well and is easy access to town, arriving early before anyone else but the occasional dedicated fisherman, Stake Lake is one of those favorites. The water is clear and there is little activity on the lake.
On this summer day loons were on the lake with a baby so the patent did the “dance” for me, distracting me from the chick.
There is an osprey nest above the west shore of the lake so we paddle in each summer and try to spot the young bird. Mother watches over the chick while the father was out hunting.
On this fine cloudy day, silver-blue light was on the lake as I paddled around the shoreline twice, a 4.7 km paddle.
