On Heffley Lake
Heffley Lake is one of our best paddling lakes, but with some limits. It is a popular spot and on weekends the motorized “fleet” arrives on the lake late morning with their noise, wakes, and disturbance, so its best to just avoid those times. The boat launch area can also be full at prime times. We paddled the lake on a weekday May morning and it was quiet and peaceful. The narrow bays by the boat launch on the northeast corner of the lake are sheltered from the wind and are, in theory, speed restricted.
Our favorite route is into all the bays on the south side of the lake. Pussywillows were still emerging on shrubs hanging out into the lake.
Loons were on the hunt on the lake.
tAcross the lake, the cliffs of Mt. Embleton call us for a return hike soon.
contWind and weather started to come at the predicted time so we followed the north shoreline back to the boat launch area after 2+ hours of paddling.
We paddle many lakes so each lake only sees 1-2 visits a year. We may be back in the fall after the power craft have put away their boats for the season.
