On and Above Jacko Lake
In October Jacko Lake was a busy spot. We counted 20 vehicles in teh parking lot/boat launch. We paddled around the lake staying close to the shoreline to stay out of the way of anglers.
After paddling we climbed over some of the hills to enjoy the sunshine and check out the views. We were mindful of the mine property and grazing areas, but there were no cattle nor mine activity. We passed quietly, respecting fences and even picking up some trash along the way.
From the top of the hill we could see Dunn Peak in the distance.
The grasslands hills were seemingly empty, but the golden slopes and rocky hilltops have their own unique beauty.
We looped back to the lake and saw that it was still busy.
On the lakeshore we spotted some Isabella tiger moths on the ground at the end of the mild weather.
Jacko Lake is one of our favorites and we are grateful that the mine did not destroy this pleasant, quiet bowl in the grasslands.
