June Ahead
As things warm up on the trails watch for the following changes:
- mosquitoes are out in the middle elevations now and they will be out at higher elevations soon
- ticks are still out, but are less active; continue to take the usual precautions
- June is the most active month for rattlesnake activity; watch for them in the Dewdrop Range, in the Westsyde Hills, and in the Batchelor Hills locally
- bears are out and about with their cubs; keep an eye on your dogs, and take the usual precautions
- withe the snow melt accelerating a number of creeks are rushing so we see some washouts on backroads; washouts also bring fallen trees
- regional alpine areas will not be snow-free for another month; south-facing open slopes will be the first to clear
