The section we hiked started at 8000 feet on Mt. Lemmon. We hiked the Marshall Gulch Trail which is also the Arizona Trail, then returned in a loop …Continue reading…

When I want a short easy hike I sometimes go to the Whiteshield trailhead of Peterson Creek Park. Almost every time I turn onto the Grasslands Loop to enjoy the view and now I have second reason to hike the trail. There is a commemorative bench there to remember our friend Clive Giolma. The view was one of Clive’s favorites. …Continue reading…
In October Jacko Lake was a busy spot. We counted 20 vehicles in teh parking lot/boat launch. We paddled around the lake staying close to the shoreline to stay out of the way of anglers. After paddling we climbed over some of the hills to enjoy the sunshine and check out the views. We were mindful of the mine property …Continue reading…

In a group hike recently, there was 3 hours of opportunity to hear the songs of birds, the hum of insects, and the quiet of the forest. Instead we heard 2 hours of …Continue reading…

Kalepa Ridge overlooks the shoreline of the east coast of Kauai between the Wailua River and Hanamaulu. The highest point on the ridge is 709 feet so there is a short steep climb on an access road to the south end of the ridge. From there the ridge route (informal trail) goes north to a point overlooking the Wailua River. …Continue reading…
While we had long term exposure to smoke from wildfire conditions in the Interior, some reports are now coming out about the health effects on people breathing the wood smoke over a period of time. Respiratory problems, kidney conditions, heart stress, and other effects are just some of the concerns people have faced. Hiking the hills in the smoke is …Continue reading…
