Some background: Pruden Pass is the gap between Mara Mountain and Wheeler Mountain. The first homesteader in the area was a man named Wheeler in 1876. With snow covering the hills, any hiking off the main trails becomes harder work. If we go into those areas, we keep the routes shorter, especially on a snowy and cold day.
