On an early June weekend morning we hiked the trails near McQueen Lake.   The McQueen property is set up as an Environmental Education Center for School District #73, and as such, students are at the Day Center on weekdays, and may be at the Overnight Center during the school week, so staff at the Center ask the public to not use the main Day Center or Overnight Center when students are present.    there is no reason for the public to be at the Overnight Center at any time without permission too,  so hikers who use any of the trails should pick routes away from McQueen Lake facilities.    If we access any of the trails, we opt for weekends and choose trails on the periphery of the property, often combining them with other area trails.  We quietly hiked along trails on the edge of the McQueen Lake area for 2 hours, leaving nothing but temporary footprints.

The McQueen Lake boundary on the east is on the shores of Griffin Lake.   The Grasslands Community Trail winds down the east side from the Isobel Lake Road to Meadow Lake. 

We hiked around some of the lakes and returned back through the forest to the trailhead.  

The lakes are shallow and marshy, great spots for observing waterfowl. 

Homesteaders lived on these lands for a short time 100 years ago but all that is left now is few old buildings, some field cairns, and some cleared pastureland. 

Our two hour hike covered about 6.2 km.    We were mindful about our noise, left nothing behind, and took nothing but photos along the way.
