Along the Trail
While we hiked the South Helmcken Trail, we made our way along a forest path to the falls, but on our way back, we kept our eyes open, carefully noting what was found on the sides of the trail. We found many mushrooms and fungi, wild ginger, rattlesnake plantain in flower, rein orchids, queen's cup in berry, Indian pipe, and yet-to-be-identifed plants. We watched squirrels shearing off mushrooms and gnawing the fringes and birds scavening bugs and berries. Only be taking a quiet and observant habit will we be able to see the ecological wonders off the trail.
