Isobel – Direwolf Loop
We drove the snowy roads to Isobel Lake to snowshoe the winter trails, following fat tire – snowshoe trails into the hills on the north side of the lake. All was quiet at Isobel Lake and there was a fresh snowfall of about 6 cm on all of the trails.
We followed the lake trail then continued west on marked trails to the Cartel Trail which climbed to a backroad that is dubbed the Direwolf Trail.
There was active logging on the backroad, but we continued up the hill past a small operation stacking logs.
The Direwolf Trail turned onto another backroad that took us over to the Dairy Creek drainage and then down the hill to the east end of Isobel Lake.
The 8.7 km loop route on snowshoes took us back to the lake and the parking lot.
The road in was snowy, there was lots of snow on the trails and we were breaking trail for part of the way, but it was another great winter snowshoe in the hills.
