A Sugarloaf Hill Ramble
November was a month of recovery, walking and hiking area trails, with a different route each day. On a snowy day we hiked up the Sugarloaf Hill trail, around the northwest flank close to the highway.
Some of the route was stomped in, but we were breaking trail past the small lake at the foot of the forested slopes.
The slopes of Sugarloaf Hill have grassland sections and open forest, with both ponderosa pines and douglas firs.
We did not attempt the summit. We hiked to a hilltop on the west side with views over to Greenstone Mountain.
It was an out-and-back day, retracing our track back.
A short video of the day’s snow stomp follows:
Our shoulder-season/recovery plan is to hike 4-6 km routes, with a different choice each day, including Kenna Cartwright Park, Peterson Creek, the Ironmask Hills, the Sage Trails, and others. Snowshoe season will follow. Posts will continue throughout the winter.
