On Walloper Lake
When the weather is doubtful for paddling, we head up the Lac le Jeune Road and pick a lake on the route. Inks Lake, Jacko Lake, MConnell Lake, Lodgepole Lake, Stake Lake, Lac le Jeune, Walloper Lake, and Paska Lake offer multiple choices if rain or wind is an issue. At prime times, Jacko and McConnell are not as good a choice, but these 8 lakes offer options for a day of paddling. We sometimes do two loops on a smaller lake. On this grey day with some wind, we launched at Walloper Lake with no one else on the water.
Silver light was caused by filtered light through the clouds.
During the paddle of the shoreline (4.8 km), there were ospreys, blackbirds, grey jays, ducks, loons, and some spotted sandpipers on the shoreline.
We usually spot a great blue heron in the shallow, marshy areas on the shoreline. They take to flight with any motion so we have to drift in.
The inlet stream at the northeast corner had lots of water, draining the south slopes of Chuwhels Mountain. The outlet stream is on the south side next to a small dam. Walloper Creek flowed south to join Meadow Creek, heading west to Logan Lake. Meadow Creek flows into Guichon Creek, through Mamit Lake, and south to the Nicola River.
Paska and Lac le Jeune Lakes are still on the route, to be paddled soon.
