Above the Fog on Dufferin Ridge
I have been hiking Dufferin Ridge in December for a few years now, picking days when valley fog lies below, but some clear skies above make the hilltops into islands above the sea of mists. The hike from the parking lot to the top of Dufferin Hill along the Tower Trail is 1.6 km. The trail continues along the spine of the ridge past the towers. With mild tempreatures the snow was wet and slippery so I put on my microspikes for the rest of the hike.
Some bright skies shone into the forest on the way up.
A few snags stand on the edge of the ridge along the route.
The microspikes made a big difference on the long downhill section at the west end of the ridge. This is a scenic route on most days, but all views to the north were only of the valley fog
At the end of the ridge, I returned along good double track trails (Ponderosa and Prickly Pear) back to the parking lot, a km loop route on a foggy but mild day.
