On Kamloops Lake
Cooney Bay is a good launch spot for kayaking on Kamloops Lake at this time of the year. To get the 18 foot kayak down to the shoreline, i put a set of wheels on the back end and then pull it down the path to the water’s edge on the river. From this launch, it is a short paddle down to the lake.
On this mid-April day, there was little wind so the lake was calm, reflecting fluffy clouds in the blue skies.
My route was around Cooney Bat, past two rocky points and then past Battle Bluff before turning back, an 8km paddle.
Rocky hills surround the shorelines of Kamloops Lake for most of its length. On this spring day, there were no other boats on the lake. I spotted 4 pairs of loons, numerous ducks and geese, and a variety of other birds. a peaceful spot for a gentle paddle on a spring day.
