Horsefly Lake Provincial Park is situated on the north shore of Horsefly Lake in the Cariboo.   From Highway 97 at 150 Mile House, drive east to the village of Horsefly.   Cross the Horsefly River on a one-lane bridge, then follow the Upper Horsefly Road for 13 km.   Watch for the signs and a right turn down into the provincial park campsite.

We camped in the park for a few days, paddling the lake, hiking some trails, and exploring the area.

There are 23 designated campsites, some of which are reservable.   We booked one right on the lake next to the boat launch.    This is a well-managed delightful campsite.

We walked along the lakeshore then up a trail to the lookout.

From the viewpoint we could look up the lake to the east.  The peaks of the Cariboo Mountains were 30 km away.

In the other direction, we could look down to Birch Bay and the lake’s outlet at the west end of the lake.

Along the route were a number of late spring wildflowers.

In this area there are no dramatic mountains.   It is hilly forested country with many lakes.   Horsefly Lake is a long narrow lake (44 km) surrounded by forest.   We paddled the lake for 3 days, hiked to the top of Viewland Mountain, and explored the lakeshore.  The  area was quiet and lovely.    We hope to return to the area to paddle the eastern end of the lake too, perhaps combined with some paddling on Quesnel Lake.
