Dufferin Ridge
When fog fills the valley, some of our hills stand above the mists and we can hike out in the sunshine. Dufferin Ridge is a good choice on a cool Winter Solstice Day.
We started in the fog, then climbed to the top of the hills near the fenced-in towers, then followed the single track west.
We were luck to have the mists lift as we traversed the ridge. Views north unfolded below us.
There is an easy-to-follow trail on top of the ridge. The western end is treeless.
A few snags still stand on the arid slopes.
The best view is west to Kamloops Lake.
Sugarloaf Hill and Greenstone Mountain also stood above the valley fog.
At the west end of Dufferin Ridge, the trail drops steeply down to meet the Ponderosa Trail, allowing a loop route back to our parking area.
Watch for the top of Dufferin Ridge to be clear above the valley fog and hike it this winter.
