Hiking Mt. Embleton
The Mt. Embleton Trails are a network of well-established trails (a BC Rec Site) on the northern hillside above Heffley Lake. There are several trailheads but we usually drive up the rough road to P2. We usually hike a loop route, climbing up to the lookout, then we hike down the ridge (Skyline Trail), and return on the Old Mills Trail. There are many other options, but this is the one we prefer. The hike up is through douglas fir forests.
From the lookout/gazebo, the trail down goes through a pleasing aspen grove.
The Skyline Trail follows an open ridge with several great viewpoints. Prominent features include Heffley Lake and Mt. Lolo.
The hike can be harder in hot weather but much of the trail is in the forest and for those who enjoy nature, there is lots to investigate along the way. A few images are shared here. Click an image for a lightbox view and a caption/ID.
The route we hiked was about 6 km. The lookout is at 1444 m (4737 feet). Although it is called Mt. Embleton, it is really just a hillside and ridge on the south side of Community Mountain (1634m or 5360 feet), but the trails are wonderful and are highly recommended.
