On a cool, grey day I drove down to Nicola Lake, then up the west side of the lake to Monck Park.    I paddled the lakeshore, then secured the boat and went for a hike on the trails.   

The hike is one I have done a few times and I return to do it in the fall most years,    From the campground/beach area, a trail goes southwest along the shoreline to the bluffs overlooking the lake, then winds up the hill to several viewpoints.  

The shoreline area has mixed forests, but is fairly open.   

The hillside above the lake is open ponderosa pine and douglas fir forest with bunchgrass, rabbitbrush, and sagebrush.     This is wonderful hiking terrain. 

The trail crosses the road, then winds across the hills below the mountain above and the lake below.  

The trail has good signage and some options are open for hikers.     I took the left turns to hike the longest loop route across the hills and back.  

The route is across the hills and down to the campground, with lots of good views along the way.    The loop trail is about 5km.
