Magpie Kinnikinik Loop
On days with marginal conditions, we often go to routes that we know we can do in a limited time and get back to the vehicle. One of our “go-to” hikes starts at Home Depot. We follow the Reservoir Trail as it angles north up the eastern slopes of Mount Dufferin. We turn onto the Magpie Trail which takes us up to Deer Run, then we turn left (south) and head back to the Lower Doc Findlay Trail
We turn onto the Lower Doc Findlay Trail and wind our way to the Kinnikinik Trail.
The Kinnikinik Trail goes back down to the Reservoir Trail, then back to the start, a 4 km route.
From the Kinnikinik Trail are open views to the river valleys, Mt. Peter/Paul and the Dome Hills.
This loop route takes 60 – 70 minutes and is a great choice for a shorter hike in shoulder season or on any “iffy” day.
Kamloops Trails will feature a number of these shorter “go-to” hikes over the next months and a full list will be found on the Trails page.
