Roche Lakes Hike
We have been hiking the Roche Lakes Provincial Park backcountry routes for decades now. Each year we do one of several loop routes. This fall we hiked past Roche Lake, John Frank Lake, Ernest Lake, Bog Lake, and Black Lake in a 3.5 hour 12.3 km moderate loop.
There are a number of old roads, tracks, and trails in the area so it requires some route-finding (a GPS track and online map is helpful). The route over to Ernest Lake winds on an old track through douglas fir and pinegrass forest.
It takes a while to get to Ernest Lake (the best spot in the park) but at about halfway we stopped on the lakeshore for lunch.
Our loop route took us past Bog Lake, a scenic spot in the park.
We continued west past Black Lake, another scenic and quiet spot/
All of the hike is on moderate, well-established routes and is a recommended hike. In the gallery, click on an image for a lightbox view and a caption.
