Tranquille River Trail
On hot summer days we can get an early start, hike flatter routes, and look for shaded trails. The Tranquille River Trail is a good choice for a morning hike. We hiked up the main trail to the water treatment plant, then we took a secondary trail through the forest to hike farther up the creek. By the hoodoos on the east side, we climbed up to a viewpoint, then descended down to the river for a shoreline break.
The first part of the trail is a wide flat path through cottonwoods, then past marshy areas, and through an open sagebrush zone near Pine Park.
There were goldpanners at various spots along the river and there were some pools that provide cool spots to wade in.
For this day we hiked to the conglomerated hoodoos, then went down to the river.
This was an out-and-back easy morning hike, well-suited to a hot day hike.
