McConnell Hill Loop
On a hot summer day we got an early start for a 9 km hike over McConnell Hill. We hiked around the east side of Stake Lake, then followed a series of ski trails (Cartwheel, Sitting Bull, Rustler) to the shoulder of McConnell Hill. We watched for the single track snowshoe trail (Bushwhacker) that goes up to the rim of the hill.
There is signage up on the Bushwhacker Trail that leads over the the west lookout/viewpoint.
We then retraced our tracks and went the other way over to the south viewpoint.
From that viewpoint we could see Lac le Jeune, Fred Lake, Ross Moore Lake, and the forested ridges to the south and west.
We hiked a loop route, returning by the Sidewinder Trail back to Stake Lake.
There are many alternate route choices to take, following a combination of ski trails and snowshoe trails in the Stake Lake Trails area. Pick your own for an enjoyable summer hike.
