Early Hiking in the Frederick Bluffs
On a cool grey day in early April we hiked the rocky Frederick Bluffs.
There are no trails in the area, but we have hiked through the hills and gullies many times, passing a series of hidden ponds along the way.
As we approached Bighorn Bluff we had our first views over Kamloops Lake.
From the bluff, the views extended east past Battle Bluff to where the Thompson River meets the lake.
Our route was up and over rocky hills, sometimes having to deal with rock slopes. Each time we hike the area, we take a different route.
A number of volcanic boulders were deposited as erratics by the retreating glaciers.
We hike this area in early spring. Since the hills are open and are mostly south-facing, it is one of the first areas to dry out in spring.
