On Lineham Ridge
In a week of hiking in Waterton National Park, we hiked up Rowe Creek Valley, then up the steep slopes below Mount Lineham to the ridge.
The access road is up the Akamina Parkway to the trailhead. The lower trail winds up the valley in the forest, with some open areas and views to the peaks above.
The upper valley has some subalpine meadows and the ridge was visible ahead.
The trail leaves subalpine forests and then winds up through the pass below rocky slopes.
From the ridge, hikers can go east up Mount Lineham or west along the ridge at 2510 m.
We chose to go east up Mt. Lineham along the rocky ridge.
We returned the way we came, back to the pass on the ridge, then wound down the open slopes on a good trail, into the valley below.
We came across a spruce grouse in the subalpine forest on the way down.
Our hike up to Lineham Ridge and Mount Lineham was a long day – 17 km. This hike was some years ago and most of what I remember was the wonderful views on top of the ridge.
