Georgina Point Heritage Park
Gulf Islands National Park Reserve has lands on most of the southern Gulf Islands, including Mayne Island. We hiked and paddled Campbell Point, Georgeson Island, and the Belle Isle Chain. We also visited Georgina Point Heritage Park on the northern tip of the Island.
The old lighthouse and station on the point were built in 1885. The lighthouse is no longer manned, but is a popular spot for visitors who can hike short trails and rocky headlands. the point is at the entrance to Active Pass where the channel waters run quickly with the tides and seabirds congregate. Orcas have been spotted, passing through the channel.
Many seabirds were perched on the rocks, after feeding on low tide lunch materials.
To the east, Georgia Strait has open waters for 20 km to the mainland.
We walked the grounds, scrambled along the rocks, and enjoyed the views from Georgina Point. In the gallery, click an image for a larger view and caption.
