Tranquille River in the Fall
The Tranquille River Trail is a short, flat trail up the east side of the river, ending 2 km upstream (although informal routes can be followed farther into the canyon). In the fall, it is a colorful route.
A spring feeds a small marsh along the route. Rushes, reeds, and shrubs provide a colorful fringe around the marsh.
There are a few side routes to the river. Goldpanners can sometimes be spotted by the water’s edge. By the fall, the river was running low.
We could cross the river by rock-hopping.
In a pool we spotted some dead fish. Spawning had finished for the year.
We returned by the same route, enjoying the vibrant seasonal displays.
This was a short hike with grandkids, with some exploration and playtime built in to the excursion. The Tranquille River Trail is a good route for families.
