Along Mount Dufferin Ridge
With many hiking trails in the Kamloops area we sometimes plan a hike in the high country, but keep a Plan B too, a hike closer to home. The Dufferin Ridge Trail is a good backup hike in marginal weather. It had rained all night and was foggy in the morning, but it started to clear in late morning.
We hiked up the Tower Trail then along the ridge. Shreds of fog were being blown off Mount Dufferin.
As we traversed the ridge, the views to the southwest cleared off too.
At about halfway along the ridge, we could see the rest of the ridge we had already hiked with the towers at the highest point to the east.
Clouds were still clearing up the North Thompson River Valley.
From farther along the ridge the Thompson River Delta and Kamloops Lake lay in the valley bottom to the west.
At the end of the Ridge Trail, we turned left before the Trans Mountain Pipeline construction area and hiked back on the Big Pine Trail to the trailhead/parking area. The loop hike was about 5.1 km. Plan B turned out to be a Class A hike in fine weather.
