Trout Creek Falls Trail
While camping at Miracle Beach Park on Vancouver Island, we did three nearby hikes, this one 14 km northwest of Campbell River. Mohun Creek runs for 12 km from Mohun Lake down to the ocean at Menzies Bay. A Forest Service Road runs west toward Strathcona Park. At 4 km the trailhead is on the side of the road by a bridge. We hiked the trail up the east side of the creek to two waterfalls.
At about 0.45 km, the first falls plunged into a deep pool of clear water.
From the first falls, the trail climbed a ridge upstream through the forest.
At about 2+ km we stopped at the second falls, sometimes called Trout Falls. Some of our group chose to do some diving off the rocks into the deep pool. The rest enjoyed the dark, cool pool and the running stream.
At the side of the plunge falls were graceful maidenhair ferns.
After some time at the falls, we returned the way we came, through the forests on a good single-track trail.
This is another recommended trail. It is neither challenging, nor long, but the two falls make a doubly rewarding destination hike.
